UGREEN 5 Bay USB-C to SATA HDD SSD RAID Enclosure

I bought this unit, seeing that it appears to be a fairly good deal. I am using each drive independently and using it for software RAID and not the built in RAID features. What I liked: Simple construction. Jumper set up isn't too hard to understand if you read the manual. USB cable is both USB-A and USB-C. Very neat. Multiple drive operations modes. Some improvements I would like: I knew it wasn't super fast for writes and I wished write speeds could be improved. I maxed out at about 50MB/s. Locking mechanism for each drive that's a bit more robust. Handle of some type for easier moving if needed.

I have a drobo that refuses to stay mounted on my M1 Mac, and after doing some research decided to give this raid enclosure a try. I moved my 4 10TB 7200RPM helium drives and ordered a 5th at the same time. Pulled the drives out of the drobo and put them in this enclosure Immediately I could see the 5 drives show up individually (default setting) and was able to scan them for errors. Then I reset the dip switches for RAID 5 and got a 40TiB usable volume. Write performance isn’t great at around 60MB/sec but read performance is good at nearly 200 and after two weeks of heavy downloading and transfers to reestablish my Plex library, all is well! Perfectly stable, no heat issues that I can tell, and my Plex server is stable and reliable again. For 250 bucks this is a great USB enclosure.
