Q: I know you can only use one output at a time, but if i have both vga & hdmi connected will my imac display options allow me to choose which is live?

A: Hi Chris, thanks for the inquiry. If you have both ports connected, the adapter will put VGA display in priority and it is the only working port when both connecting. Hope this helps. Any further question, please feel free to contact us at support@ugreen.com.cn

Q: will this work on a 13 inch Early 2011 MacBook Pro

A: Please kindly note that the early 2011 13inch MacBook pro has a thunderbolt interface, the mini DisplayPort could compatible with thunderbolt port, so our item could support the MacBook perfectly.

Q: What is the difference between a display port and an hdmi port?

A: The difference between Display port and HDMI port are majorly on the physical port shape and the functionality. You can tell by seeing the port with the physical port, but the DP port usually supports a wider range of bandwidth which will allow it to support a higher resolution such as 4K resolution @60Hz while HDMI 1.4 version support at 4k @30Hz. That'd be said, you will see more DP ports on Higher resolution displays than HDMI. But HDMI is much popular port than DP.
